Our project involves a multidisciplinary team comprising mathematicians and engineers working in academia in close collaboration with construction professionals.

Computational Mechanics and Design Group

CMD research involves developing a deeper understanding of the mechanical behaviour of materials and structures, so that they can be used optimally or manipulated according to specific needs; hence mechanics and design become intertwined. We also undertake research in fluid flow, primarily for application in building physics.

Centre for Advanced Studies in Architecture

CASA is at the forefront of research into many areas of architecture, including principles of Roman architecture, Renaissance architectural treatises, English Baroque architects, architectural guides to Bath 19th and 20th century architecture, architectural technology, design management.

Operational Research and Optimization

The main focus of the group is on mathematical and computing aspects of optimization. The core technology in optimization is the solution of large sparse linear and quadratic problems.
