The project has led to the creation of the powerful Peregrine layout optimization plugin for Rhino/Grasshopper. Details of webinars and other events are available in the “News” pages. The plugin can be downloaded from this site

The LayOpt educational web-app has also been developed - no software installation needed. Try it for yourself by visiting layopt.com.

Overview

The potential benefits of building with more efficient structural forms are huge. The overall aim of this research project is to develop rapid and robust computational design optimization methods to identify efficient layouts of elements in building structures, particularly large-scale structures. This will enable construction professionals to rapidly evaluate and optimize structural layouts, with a view to stimulating fundamental change in the way new buildings are designed - and to less resource hungry buildings.
